Why Bosch injectors are worth paying a little more

Hey guys, it’s Brad over here at SEP!

We still get asked an awful lot, why we stopped providing Chinese injectors or “off-brand” injectors and went to an exclusively Bosch made product catalog.

There are a few reasons.

For one, Bosch is an amazing company to do business with, they make it easy for their partners like SEP to order, forecast inventory and shipments etc. They’re highly reliable, even throughout the pandemic in 2020 they kept with shipping times and only made promises they could keep.

Another big reason, Bosch is incredible at manufacturing. The product is easier to flow match, the production variance is minimal and that makes tuning data more accurate. This means happy tuners and customers.

Lastly, is the cost. They are superior in quality and most flow rates hardly cost more than Chinese imported injectors.

Bonus: The majority are made in the USA and support jobs here in the states.

Here’s an example: if you buy non flow matched injectors from one of the big name brands that sell them, we have personally seen up to 10% flow variance in a “set” here at SEP. That means one cylinder will be extremely rich while one cylinder will be very lean. These companies simply do NOT flow match or confirm flow rate, the production variance is the “flow match” and the customer is the quality control mechanism.

A 5-10% flow variance undeniably costs horsepower, and engine life. It will also cost you time on the dyno getting your car to idle and drive correctly as each individual cylinder will require more time to tune than it would with a set of injectors that had a 2% or less variance.

Another major concern is the “offset” or “deadtime”

If you’re injector company is not also including a deadtime or offset match as part of the flow match process you’re going to see issues achieving a smooth idle and partial throttle performance.

I don’t know of a single brand selling Chinese injectors that does offset matching, like SEP did in the last year or so of offering Chinese injectors.

Chinese injectors have a large confidence interval when it comes to offsets and this is most evident in the high idle requirements with Chinese injectors of all flow rates.

You can see SEP customer cars with Pro-Series 2200cc injectors idling below 900rpm because of the extra step we take to offset match our injectors.

Check out this testimonial from Rich Walker aka “TunedbyRich” on social channels:

“Your injectors are the sh*t! Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. 1200hp/900ft-lbs on pump e85. 62.2% duty cycle at 7400rpm. But the coolest thing is 0.2% duty at 850 rpm idle @1.0 lambda… You’ve heard this car start and idle… 🙌🏼”
Snake Eater, Tuned by Rich and Reroy Chang FTW

That kind of performance on a consistent basis is simply not possible with a Chinese made injector. The consistency between production runs and within each individual production run is what makes that kind of flow and offset match possible and without that then this level of performance is simply not possible.
